requires people to understand that their freedom exists alongside the rights and
freedoms of other people.
Independence also means accepting responsibility for our choices. A person who
is independent does not simply do whatever they want. Instead, an independent
person understands the consequences of their actions and makes responsible
decisions. For example, students demonstrate independence when they take
responsibility for their education, manage their time, solve problems, and learn
from mistakes. These small actions help prepare young people to become
responsible members of society.
Education plays a particularly important role in creating an independent society.
Education gives people knowledge and the ability to understand the world
around them. It allows individuals to develop their own ideas and make informed
choices. When people are educated, they are better prepared to participate in
their communities and contribute to society.
Independence also requires respect for diversity. Modern societies include
people with different cultures, languages, backgrounds, beliefs, and experiences.
Freedom cannot truly exist if only certain groups are allowed to enjoy it. A society
becomes stronger when everyone has the opportunity to participate and when
differences are treated with respect.
Therefore, the meaning of independence today is not simply “being free from
someone else.” It means having the ability to make choices, think independently,
express ourselves responsibly, respect others, and contribute positively to our
communities. Freedom is both a right and a responsibility.
Freedom and Peace in Action as Global Citizens
The third important idea is that independence and freedom should lead us
toward peace rather than conflict. Today, countries and communities are more
connected than ever. Technology allows people from different parts of the world to
communicate within seconds. Problems such as climate change, poverty, war,
discrimination, and disease do not stop at national borders. Because of this
interconnected world, we must think not only as members of our own countries
but also as global citizens.
Being a global citizen does not mean giving up our national identity or culture.
Instead, it means recognizing that our actions can affect people beyond our
immediate communities. A global citizen respects different cultures, learns from
other people, and understands that every person has basic rights and dignity.
Peace is one of the most important responsibilities of global citizens. Peace does
not simply mean the absence of war. It also means creating conditions in which
people can live safely, express themselves freely, and resolve disagreements
